ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Tutorial about a defense system I haven't seen elsewhere. It is quite useful against missile and plasma damage. The idea is inspired on real life Reactive Armor used on tanks. Hope you find it interesting!


The idea is to place struts on the outside of critical areas that have to be protected. These struts will eat the damage of the attack, thus minimizing the impact on the blocks underneath. It is intended as an exterior defense and it should be used alongside conventional armor.

Tutorial de un blindaje que no he visto en ningún otro sitio. Muy útil contra Plasmas y Misiles.La idea está inspirada en el Blindaje Reactivo utilizado en carros de combate reales. ¡Espero que os guste!


La idea es colocar Varas en el exterior de zonas críticas que deben ser protegidas. Estas varas absorben el daño del ataque, apenas afectando a los bloques cercanos. Esta hecha para ser una defensa exterior y debería usarse junto al blindaje convencional.

1. Choose the placement for the Reactive Armor

The first step should be choosing where to place the Reactive Armor. Once chosen, several blocks should be removed in a straight line, as shown in the picture. 5 if we intend to place a short strut, or 7 if we want the long one.

El primer paso sería elegir dónde colocar el Blindaje Reactivo. Una vez elegido, se despejan varios bloques en linea recta, como se muestra en la fotografía. 5 si queremos poner una Vara corta, 7 si preferimos una Vara larga.

2. Create the structure for the Reactive Armor.

The photo shows all the elements of the Reactive Armor structure. It is important to have the layer underneath made of triangular blocks, so that these don't touch our structure. On the upper layer, we have the triangular black blocks, which will become the placement for our strut. The blue block is the support for the whole structure. It is advisable to make it a Light block, so that it can handle more damage, as this block is very important.

The photo shown is meant for long strut Reactive Armor. It can also be made for short Struts just by shortening the structure.

La foto muestra todos los elementos de la estructura del Blindaje Reactivo. Es importante que la capa inferior de bloques este hecha de triangulos, para evitar que ambas capas hagan contacto. En la hilera de arriba, tenemos los bloques triangulares, pintados de color gris, que marcan donde irá nuestra Vara. El bloque azul es el elemento clave de toda la estructura. Es recomendable que este sea un Bloque Ligero para que pueda aguantar mas daño, ya que este bloque es muy importante.

La foto que se muestra representa una estructura hecha para una Vara larga. Si se quisiera poner una Vara corta, solo habría que acortar un poco la estructura.

3. Surroundings of the Reactive Armor

As it can be seen, the red blocks surrounding the structure must be triangular, with the spike pointing towards the structure of our Reactive Armor. The cubes shown in orange, those next to the blue Light Cube, are also triangular, but are placed in the opposite direction. This can be seen in the second image. This stops damage spreading across the structure. It is also important to remember that the cubes beneath our structure should be triangular as well, as shown in Step 2, so that there is no contact between the two layers of blocks.

Como se puede ver, los bloques rojos que rodean a la estructura han de ser triangulares, con la punta apuntando a la estructura de nuestro Blindaje Reactivo. Los bloques de color naranja, los que estan en contacto con el Bloque Ligero azul, también son triangulares, pero estan colocados al contrario que los bloques rojos, tal y como se muestra en la segunda imagen. Esto frena todavía mas la dispersion del daño por la superficie del vehículo. Es importante recordar que los bloques que se hallan debajo de nuestra estructura han de ser triangulares, tal y como se mostraba en el Paso 2, para que no haya contacto entre las dos hileras de bloques.

4. Finishing the Reactive Armor

At last we can place the strut in its spot. Now, when the strut is destroyed, the damage won't travel all over the place, but instead flow through the structure I created and come out in the middle, as shown with the yellow blocks, thus concentrating all the damage in the surface layer and only in a small spot.

Al fin podemos poner la Vara en su sitio. Ahora, cuando esta sea destruida, el daño no se esparcirá por todo el vehículo, sino que seguirá por la estructura que hemos visto y saldrá por el centro, representado en la imagen con los bloques amarillos. Todo el daño se concentrará en la capa superior y en un único punto.

Thank you for your rating!! It's a good idea. I suppose it depends on the intention of the user of the armor. By creating connections with the second layer the whole structure becomes more powerful, by all means, but damage may spread further. In this design the edge cubes that support the strut are not health cubes, but another way to enforce them would be just that, change as many cubes as possible and make them Health cubes. Nevertheless, when the edge holding the strut gets destroyed, the damage travels to the strut and to the cubes underneath, that means that only part of the damage goes to the cubes, and it still has to destroy 3 normal cubes and one health cube. Nevertheless, reinforcing the structure underneath is also a good idea.

it is possible that if damage hits the Health Edge in front of the strut, the damage will travel down and destroy the middle block, disconnecting the strut from the bot and basically destroying it in one hit. Maybe instead remove that mid block and make 2 connection points underneath so there is no possibility of this happening.

Thank you for your kind words and your rating! This armour is based on damage redirection, of course. This Reactive Armor is just another way to use damage redirection. The idea was to imitate real life reactive armor, which are explosive capsules that detonate when damaged and stop an incoming shot. This is what this armor tries to do, create a mostly self contained structure that can absorb the damage without letting it spread

This is just damage redirection as we know it, not reactive armor. Very good tutorial though.

On the last step, damage will also flow to the next red blocks close to the yellow ones, but it won't spread much thanks to the structure.

En el último paso, el daño tambien alcanzará a los bloques rojos que estan tocando a los bloques amarillos, pero el daño no se esparcirá mucho gracias a la estructura.
