Tutorial : How many thruster does your plane need ?

General Tutorial added 10 months ago

Hi everyone,

Here is a short tutorial to teach you how many thrusters your plane will need to fly in Robocraft with MK10 parts.

1 Ton = 1 Thruster
2 Tons = 2 Thrusters
8 Tons = 8 Thrusters
(This is the minimum needed to fly well)

4 Wings = 1-4 Tons
6 Wings = 4-6 Tons
8 Wings = 6-8 Tons
(This is the minimum needed to fly well)

You can add hovers in your plane or helium to make it lighter.
1 Hover = -720kg
1 Helium = -100kg (1000N = 100kg)
(PS : there is a typo in Helium desciption, it's 1138N, not kN)

Now you can make your plane flies well, build it, and become the death from above !

I would say with the current state of the game and planes having been put in the back seat that this is a well timed and needed tutorial which might return them to the spotlight. Possibly sideforce or hover tutorial next?

Well I'll do some other tutorials for sure, about wing placements, sideforce, rodforce... etc ^^

AH that text-speech voice... At least it wasn't Microsoft Sam, but still. I found the video clean and efficient at presentation, with no more details or flair then what was needed, so good focus there. Funny thing was, I never really looked at any tutorials when I started building flyers. I just threw thrusters in a semi balanced manner and front loaded the foils until the design could get off the ground. But I never had a ratio to stick to. I'd heard of using hovers in combination with foils before, but never understood their impact before this video, so I'm definitely considering modifying my top bomber to include this equipment. This was a great tutorial, however, I think it could be slightly improved to grant a full understanding of these mechanics to an even better degree. First off, I would remove the speedup of the plane tests in test mode, just so people can see real time how fast the planes accelerate and pitch. It's not that much of an issue, but it is slightly harder to translate to actual gameplay. Second, (and I'm not sure if this even has any effect), at what point do the hovers lose their stabilizing abilities? Like, will having one overtaxed hover prevent the plane from flying with half foils, etc. Finally, and this is just a tiny note for new guys, I would just mention the usage of inner cubes and slants/slopes etc just to reduce weight. I see too many players whose designs could be so much better if they just chose slightly lighter cubes in the same places.
Overall, this was a very effective tutorial, and even a longtime aircraft builder in me learned something from this, but I just wanted to give tips on how to take it through the roof. Awesome work (and it wasn't even a bot)!

Well, since I'm mute, no other choice ^^'

I think the best improvement would have been using a speedometer...
Well if you've a 3500kg chassis, you'll need around 3-5 thrusters, depending how they are placed ^^
I wanted to make another tutorial about wing placements and light chassis so, this will be for a next time !

Thank you for rating and for this constructive comment, once more ^^

Alright, good to know. I was thinking that adding all this info might make the tutorial longer and less appealing, which is half of its charm to begin with, so good luck on that next tutorial!

Just use your normal voice, i cant stand that voice2text one.
I don't care if you sound bad, anything is better than voice2text.

Probably not the best time to be uploading tips on making flyers considering the state plasma is in, but nonetheless there was some pretty good tips in here ^^ I never knew that the force of hovers alone could propel a plane... freejam physics...
