Shootout

General Robot added 5 months ago

*NEW* I've just added Ironman and Storm Trooper! I've also redesigned a few of them for better game balance :D
Plasma - He now has a separate gun in each hand, and they are Disruptors instead of Pulsers.
Bazooka - He now has a Ravager instead of a Bombarder because the RoF was just too slow for him to be effective.
Medic - He now has 2 Binders because he was really pretty useless with just the one.

(original post)
I've created some mini soldiers for a custom game I call "Shootout". The idea is a more tactical, squad-based game that's maybe a bit goofy (they literally slide around) and hopefully really fun.

The soldiers are low cpu, meaning quick deaths and hopefully more teamwork. I've tried to balance things with different gun strength and RoF. For example the Gunner uses a single Blaster gun, but the Master Chief has 2 Wasps.

I had a custom match the other day 4v4 after I had made a few characters. Thank you to those who participated! The characters fell over a bit more than I had hoped, so I have since reworked their design.

They originally had thrusters around their feet and waist, and now they each have a thruster "backpack" based on the center of weight. Also, I've added some helium to the top, and placed corner slopes on the feet to give a wider and more stable base. Basically they all work fine with keyboard controls (they tend to turn sluggishly with camera control), but the Scout and Reverse Flash I think work best with camera control and tilt.

Also, there was some confusion with people replacing weapons with Disintegrators and Leviathans which unbalanced gameplay greatly. So, if you'd like to try, please leave weapons and blocks as they are :) Basically I've tried to give each character some kind of strength/weakness without (hopefully) making any one character OP.

Below is a video of a Shootout custom game. Thanks to BleedingFlash for letting me link his video here! And thanks to Borg clan for inviting me to their Shootout match. We had a few 5v5 games, it was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again.

some people are adding tanks to the Shootout CRF. If you'd like to add a bot, please add a balanced character, not tanks :)

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".

Ok, got it! I want to place my vote now.
