The Buckler Copter

Tesla Copter added 2 years ago

To name this copter I typed into google, small flat shielded weapon and first name on "The Buckler".

The goal was to work with 4 rotors instead of the more popular 6-8 as a minimum that we see on most copters today. For that to work, there needs to be LOS obstruction from the direct front. I managed to accomplish this with the EP design you see before you (I am sure it has been done elsewhere but I have not see it used as I am using it).

By using only 4 rotors and keeping my cockpit as small as possible I have a well shielded bot that can take a lot of damage. I am using 10.1 shields on the most exposed weapons mounts to absorb damage.

When looking at the bot from the direct front you are unable to shot the rotors directly.

I drive this bot close to the ground and rise to heal or fire weapons (Nano's can be swapped with SMG's). I have played it with SMG's as well, but I prefer it as originally intended as a medic copter.

As you take damage usually it is the 10.7's that break off first and you are still a fully functional bot with 6 nano's and all your rotors.

I am still tinkering with connection points on the ep's and guns as well as the thruster configuration.

Besides the 10.5 EP's for the cockpit, it is all prism plated.

Yeah, that EP design looks super familiar. Check out my Black Knight designs and tutorial to help make your bot a bit safer. Also, putting the shields on the backsides of cubes like you have done DOES stop damage spread, but the shields will pop off and be mostly useless beyond 1 shot.

Thanks, checked out your build, very helpful. Very similar profile. I see you went with six rotors and a more Aerorod connections, I choose more thrusters instead to control my visibility to the enemy.

I agree the 10.1 shields are for single shots.. and that is exactly what I expect. Then I either get healed or head back to base.

I purposely have not attached the front EP's elsewhere on my cockpit so they are forced to transfer damage to the rest of the EP's as I do not want the damage to spread to my movement cubes attached to my cockpit, which is much smaller than in your build.

Its nice to see I was not the only one to put this combination of EP's to a good use!

The main body of the bot seems very well protected with the EP nicely aligning themshelves on the bot. Problem though is that all your rotorblades are in the exact same spot making it easy for you enemies to shoot all your blades at the same time.
I did read your description and yes, if the enemy is in front of you then the rotors wont get shot off, but as a medic you will be targeted from top, front, side.
Overall good design!

Well, first of all thank you. With regards to the rotors, while they are in the same place they are not connected. To date, Plasma blast from above have not taken more than one at a time... I could be lucky however :)

Thanks for your feedback friend... Much appreciated, as I am sure it can be approved!

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".
