[D] Double Trouble Pod Racer

Plasma Hover added 2 years ago

And here's my first official pod racer. It's extremely lightweight, being composed of primarily TX-1 blocks. All of the weight instead comes from the four T10 thrusters which propel this bot to insane speeds, but they put weight on the back of the chassis so the pilot pod uses a single T10 helium to counteract the imbalance.

It can be made a slight bit faster if i remove the T10.1 electroplates, but since i have absolutely no cosmetics besides the two flags i just used, they're my only eye candy.

It also uses two T6 thrusters to make its turning much more responsive, but they're not absolutely required. I just needed something to fill the block face.

===================================

According to TanyaSapiens's race map, this bot completes the race in just ~1:06. It can reach the other base, from and to the middle of the circles in 24 seconds. It's pretty damn fast, only a plane could beat it.

It can also be fitted with 3 weapons of your choice, but they WILL hinder its speed. I prefer plasma because coupled with the quick reload and max OC13 speed, you could really do some damage if you can avoid it yourself :P

That's all folks! Rate away!

Nice bot. Why you use hovers?. Cause i have build something like this but much more heavier weight but more thruster. I have do some speed test and the results is hovers are much slower compare to skis which got no speed limit. So why you not use skis?.

That's what TanyaSapien's rules and regulations for pod racers are:

♦ The vehicle must be in three primary sections (1 pod, 2 engines) however, multiple engines may be clustered into a single section for 4, 6, and 8 engine arrangements. extra engine modules may be added, up to a total of 4.
♦ One hoverblade must be used per vehicle section, for three in total. T2 hoverblades are recommended by race officials due to their minimal braking effect on the engines.
♦ Designs using three or four engine pods may use additional hoverblades on the added pods, up to a total of 5.
♦ Rudders and wings may be used, but only in a vertical arrangement. leaving the road surface in controlled flight is considered cheating and grounds for disqualification.
♦ Helium may be used for stability, but only in small amounts. A pod floating away into space will be considered a disqualification. And hilarious.
♦ No more than four operational headlights are allowed per pod. More than four may be used for aesthetic purposes, but if seen turned on during a race, the racer will be disqualified. This is for fairness purposes as not all racers are using high-end hardware and excessive headlight glare may cause them issues.
♦ No wheels. No Rotors. No legs. No tracks. Skis may be used as landing gear, but do not remove the need for hoverblades on the vehicle. A pod unable to hover above the track surface is considered ineligible to race.
♦ Using a T8 tesla blade as an energy binder between the engine pods isn’t required at this time, however it is strongly encouraged.

You'd be surprised how bad the enemy team was. Once i got close to the railers they could do nothing but run away, same for the hover plasmas :P

I actually only died by another person once. The other two i had to suicide because the medic wouldn't help and i was stuck with the main pod :P

For those of you wondering, YES! This pod racer, after the recent gun RR update that happened tonight on the 31/7/2015, managed to win a battle and earn a not too shabby score for something that falls apart so unbelievably easily.

Behold! The new picture from the battle results! I used the same setup for this battle as in the picture where the racer is depicted with 3 T10 plasmas attached.

Great job in the creativity department but as you yourself mentioned, it could easily get one-shot by plasma if hitting you in the main pod. Creativity for the win!

Pretty sure the total weight of the TX-1 blocks is less than everything else combined :P

Given you two comfortable 9s. I reckon if you get caught in a bullet storm things can go very wrong.

And the podracer idea is a tried and tested one but I like your design with the hovers very neatly tucked away.

Would be great to see this in a battle to see how it performs.

To be fair this thing was in no way meant to resemble a pod racer AND be effective in battle. It can carry guns but i reckon that a single plasma hit will be enough to kill me if it hits the main pod :P

I wasn't expecting a high rating in practical honestly but thanks anyway :D

EDIT: I'll upload the picture with 3 plasmas for you to see how they fit :)

Still looks good.

I think there is value to be had in a very high speed agile pod-racer style bot... possibly equipped with a only 2 strong SMG's and high end Teslas.

It's sheer speed & tiny hitbox coupled with the damage teslas dish out could be good.

That's fair. I uploaded the image with 3 T10 plasmas. The turning balance is a little delicate though and if you turn too fast while they're installed, you'll turn to your side and start flipping. It happens less with SMGs because they have almost the same weight as the EP i've placed there, but i reckon the extra weight on the main pod is what's throwing it off when turning, otherwise it can spin on and on and on without issue.

I might start experimenting. Nice bot.

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".
