Dark Owl

Plasma Bomber added 2 years ago

Hey, I see you've stumbled onto this build of mine.

I've had this bot for a while (quite a few months by now), and I can definitely say that this is one of my strongest creations. (Edit: Not anymore, look at Eventide and Nightfall instead, they are essentially direct upgrades from this one.
However, Eventide is stronger against SMG, while Nightfall is stronger against rails.)

If I ever have he need to face someone 1v1, this would be the bot I'd use, unless they meet the following conditions:
- Have very good flight capability (large amount of redundancy)
- AND have more than 2 mega-SMGs.

...because mega-SMGs are really good at clipping wings and thrusters in comparison to normal SMGs, and it really hurts to be pounded by mega-SMGs.

My general strategy while using this bot is to use height as cover. Some people say that's a bad idea, but hear me out.

A major weakness for flyers is SMG and rail bots. I can't say much for rails other than circle above them, but this bot can take quite a few shots from rail cannons.

For ground SMG bots, increasing your altitude means you're increasing the distance between yourself and them.
Increase in distance means:
- Many of their their shots will miss if they hold the button down.
- Tap fire has very low DPS.
- SMG damage significantly lowers at range, especially when overclocked.

For air SMG bots, you want to stay close and above them. This significantly increases the chance for you to hit them, and makes it harder to aim for you, if you keep moving.
However, if you don't keep moving around them in between your shots, they'll destroy your bot very quickly due to high DPS at close range (if they don't miss most of their shots), so be wary of that. Ideally, after a few volleys they'll crash down before you do and become a ground SMG bot.

There's only 6 plasma launchers because it's my way of limiting how long I should stay before retreating to find a source of healing.
Usually by the time 1 plasma launcher remains, I'd already be shredded pretty badly, but can still fly.
By the time I lose the last plasma launcher, I'd risk crashing down if I take more damage.

Damage is redirected away from the pilot seat.
Some components have damage redirected away from other components, to help avoid having multiple being destroyed at the same time.

The gun mounts are highlighted with (white) light chassis cubes, the aerofoil and rudder mounts are highlighted in (blue) windshield cubes, and the thruster mounts are highlighted in (grey) heavy chassis cubes.

Video of a game in battle mode below if you want to see how this thing does, sorry for the low frame rate.

Didn't cut anything away except the last bit where I checked on my internet connection.

This was recorded before I planned to upload it to garage... Never thought I'd actually use it- originally, this was just a test to see how my computer would handle recording Robocraft.

The video will not work so... here. :3

If you have suggestions for my build (and video), please tell me in the comments! I'd greatly appreciate it.

This thing looks MEAN. I hate fighting against bombers, especially well built ones, and this one scares me. Well done.

Thank you :D

I'm really proud of this build, so it's nice to hear what people think of it.

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".

Why do one want these points?

After receiving about 100 total amount of votes the user will get a chance of being promoted to "Approved Reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Ok, got it! I want to place my vote now.
