Practical Robot

Devourer

General Robot added 2 years ago

This is an iteration of my previous Sky Maw build, it is really 'Sky Maw Mk.II' but Devourer sounds cooler. It is in many ways improved:

1. It now weighs less so it can move faster and is easier to control
2. The section holding the tesla blades are much more thought through and more solid and can take a much larger beating then before
3. It no longer has any T9 blocks
4. It contains some triforcing to increase survivability
5. It looks has also been improved(at least in my taste)

Build Guide can now be found here: http://robocraftgarage.com/tutorial/cDFIKPXZ

It works really well as a ambush and defence bot. The strongest defensive maneuver is to hit enemy wessels right as they reach the interface of the your own fusion shield that way they can't harm the blades regardless of their firepower. The ambush style is simply low flying to avoid spotting and rails, anyone occupied by shooting a tower or your teammates is too occupied to see your approach from above and behind. Plasmas and medics are generally free kills, and with a little training bombers and plasma copters are too. The most satisfying kills though are when you sneak up on a railer and just gulp it up.

It is still one of my favorite builds both aesthetically and gameplay wise. Like its previous incarnation it suffers if the enemy team has many smgs, forcing it to play defensively which is rather boring because it means staying in the fusion shield all the time waiting for enemies to come to you. That also means if the shield is down your life is short. Otherwise works surprisingly well and can rack up a lot of kills. In a game where the teams ar rater even it usually gets 10 - 20 kills, about 1 - 3 kills every life. I've included a non halloween version of it in the pictures for reference.

The previous version, 'Sky Maw' has been deleted but it was basically a weaker version of this robot.

Sorry for the wall of text, hope you enjoyed the read^^

**EDIT: I have been informed that the previous thumbnail which contained a color edited version of this craft was seen as fraudulent by some people. As this was not my intention I have now replaced it with a new and improved thumbnail. For those interested the old thumbnail can be found here: http://i.imgur.com/gbiGIKa.jpg?1**

I played with you Dust, and I was pretty surprised when I flew around with you, this thing can take the hits and get the kills, nice creative and very functional build.

He did use photoshop but he didn't alter his bot that's the point. Still deserves a good rating just for the time he invested into it.

Using photoshop ON YOUR BOT just for get more view... sorry but that is pathetic.

The irony of telling someone off for having used photoshop for their thumbnail image whilst they've had their bot photoshopped for their thumbnail image.

Ultimately, the garage and gameplay images haven't been modified; Dust is free to alter his thumbnail as he sees fit (after all, I'm not familiar with the map that has the bright-red into dark-red gradient that your thumbnails are cut onto -- pot calling the kettle black really).

Well I've seen some other color changed bots in the thumbnails so I didn't think it would bother anyone if I tried it too. I guess I see your point though, I've noticed I tend click on the more 'sparkly' thumbnails but I just kind of figured it was convention to make a cooler thumbnail if you can. Plus green shields look nice even though they can never be real gameplay wise.

Sorry it bothered you, I might try some other things for future thumbnails that will not include changing the color(or appearance) of my bots.

I can imagine the frustration of anyone who is killed by this :P. I would chuck a nano or plasma on the back for last resort though

I once thought about trying some backup weapon, but I realised I just really wanted to see if I could make a pure tesla work. I'm rather satisfied with the results so far^^

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".
