Axis - [CF Alliance] Heavy Assault Tank
Axis is part four of my Cronn Invasion series. It is heavily armed and armored, making it an ideal choice when attacking multiple enemies.
For armament, Axis mounts a quartet of SMG’s, along with a pair each of rails and plasmas. The rails help with anti-air and range attack, and the plasmas support the SMG’s in close range and in long range attack. All mounts have a limited tri-force around them, with the weakest rod-forced as well.
As for defense, Axis has considerable amounts of protection. All mounts are tri-forced, with the treads given a moderate tetra weave to prevent damage transfer between them. Five treads are mounted to ensure the greatest time with good mobility. Some cosmetics are added to serve as shields to absorb some damage before it gets into the tracks or internals.
As Axis uses tracks, it doesn’t have the best speed. However, its track layout helps balance the weight from the back towards the front, helping turns and mobility over rough ground. Steep hills can give it problems, but it can traverse shallower hills without undue difficulty.
After the appearance of main army Cronn units, CF Alliance finally agreed that the threat was growing large enough that it could not be ignored anymore. They ordered their engineers to construct a frontline MBT that could help E14 hold the Cronn divisions at bay. After hurried testing, a battalion was sent to reinforce battered E14 divisions holding emplacements around the Hellion Impact Crater. Being driven almost straight off the carriers into battle, they quickly proved their worth by spearheading counter thrusts against Cronn attacks. E14 strategists bemoaned their lack of speed and agility, which they considered paramount in offensive operations, but they could not deny their value in protecting the light elements in their own army. With Axis platoons leading the way, coalition forces were able to force Cronn units into a withdrawal in multiple sectors, but plenty of enemy reinforcements are in the way.
