Practical Robot

Crate Farmer

Ion Hover added 2 years ago

A little robot I designed to farm crates and XP from single player.

I focused on making this robot have an extremely high DPS-to-CPU ratio. Using four basic hovers, and minimal chassis parts, the only CPU-heavy parts are the Power Module and Ion Distorter.

The four hovers are capable of carrying the heavy central components at about 130 MPH at OC 1, up to 210 MPH at OC 15.

The robot only has two defensive features. The first, is the outer ring, only connected to the inner, functional parts in two points. The parts on the outer ring are most-frequently shot off by lucky NPCs. The main defensive components are in the center of the bot: the power module and ion distorter. By placing one on top of the other, I essentially created a 135,000 HP damage-sink. The NPCs poor aim, 10-second heal and damage-sink guarantee you will not have to restart your crate kill count.

Needless to say, this robot will not succeed in any PVP game mode. It will be annihilated.

Despite playing this game for almost 2 years, I am not very good at it. The Crate Farmer allowed me to catch my breath after the most recent Robocraft updates and gain some easy XP. This bot is capable of quickly crushing NPCs in 1-2 Ion blasts.

Not bad, but maybe a more conventional design with far more firepower (4 rails 2 shotguns and SMG) would be more effective

Thanks for the rate. Also, I'd like to see more people take advantage of Single Player. You should make a crate bot too.

I tried to keep the design simple. I can't tell if this is true anymore, but in the past, the NPC bots power scaled against your bots CPU/Ranking. I figured highest DPS/CPU ratio would keep the power of the NPCs lower, equating to faster kills.

oh I see. it has power module for a few extra shots in a row, and it is small, and most important of all, it is made for singleplayer grinding only.

Kinda scummy to be honest. And even then it isn't well built as it has less then what 50 blocks of armor and exposed hovers.

Too me this seems like something that takes less then 5 minutes to make and I don't think u shouldve posted this bot. (I consider it to be an effortless build and as a result have reported it)

I would like to bring up 3 points in my defense:

- This robot, even though it is small and simple, is successful at what it was designed to do. (You wouldn't judge a goldfish by its ability to climb trees.)
- I find Single Player is an often overlooked and rarely explored part of Robocraft, and I feel that warrants more solo play builds. Especially now that Solo offers valuable crates instead of a small helping of RP.
- I could not find another Crate Farming design, robot or concept on this site. Perhaps other could take advantage of this idea, benefit from it and expand on it.

Thank you.

"Needless to say, this robot will not succeed in any PVP game mode."

Trust me, i use a lot of Ion Distorter + Module cheapbots and they can wreck anything.

+1 For the colored hovers showing the front and back side

Also, I'll test it out in TDM. Thanks for the tip. Maybe I can turn it into a "Noob Farmer".

Yeah, absolutely. I just think that a DSM or BLM would help a lot.

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".
