Judgement Mode

Snipey Spidey (retired)

Take it easy with this bot, it is a proof of concept. It can get some kills but it's fragile and somewhat tricky to control.

The point I was trying to prove was that I could do an insect leg bot that could take off, fly legs-forward, stick it to a wall and start shooting. Point proven to my surprise, game mechanics are flexible!

When airborne it's manoeuvrable. When on the ground in tries to take off on me if I aim and shoot.

Use CAM+TILT. Aim high and jump to take off, press W while in the air to fly legs-first.

2017-07-27 Aerofoil Update: the update broke this robot, the new wings, when installed vertically have a stabilization algorithm that keeps the whole bot upright or upside down. This bot therefore does not fly any more horizontally. I keep it in one bay for reference, and I will upload to Factory again in case Freejam fixes wings in the future.

Folks, I uploaded a video. It refers to the improved version. Sitting lower, all built out of chassis cubes, thicker.

I think I slightly improved it by lowering the propeller one cube. The game mechanics make the propeller "blow air in your face". A lower build gives more opportunity to see the bot from above, which implies that propeller will make it stick to the wall.

it looks like something Iron-man would deploy!

I agree with you, not overly practical. But the design intent here was to have a rapidly deployable (Iron Man would like it) sniper. All walkers I see that can also fly are ultimately copters, therefore not so fast. It would be nice to further develop it to see if at least it can stop trying to take off when it's not time, just because of how you aim. This limits usefulness to when it can work upright, while it makes it tricky to shoot when you're walking on a wall.

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".
