Scalene Mega

SMG Megabot added 2 years ago

Unique new design mega built with over 4000 new corner slope blocks and armed with 10 MSMG's. Solid performer in the pit. Semi transparent design makes for some interesting camo Colour schemes.

Update:
MK II version chassis on CRF in free Colour scheme. Stitched up the middle, added more crosslinks. Basically stiffened everything up a bit. Bit tougher now and harder to split.

I've seen this in the pit. Its awful.
You realize that with tetras like that you're redirecting damage to your center right? That makes it very easy to split in half.

INB4 curved slope glass for making true chameleons :P

This is definitely quite the effort to make, but i'll agree with people here saying the weight reduction is a little pointless, and, if anything, just a little bit pointless :)

Very very nice work I can only echo everyone else's comments but hey at the moment this is about as close as we can get to cloaking devices in RC hehe great work really well done :-)

Along the lines of what piippiz and WagonWheels have already mentioned, this corner slope weaving could be more useful on a wheeled or hover Mega, but it is definitely a new implementation, so definite Creative points there! Mech Legs are already uber stable as is, but I guess it's only proper building technique to lighten anything above the center of gravity, right?

Cool design, looks functional, good ratings. Btw, I was wondering where the name "scalene" comes from. Is it because the MSMGs are all mounted at unevenly spaced apart points on the chassis to make various scalene triangles?

Yes that is correct with the name, more or less. I realise weight reduction on mech legs is pointless, but that is not the point of this build. Look at it more as an art bot proof of concept to showcase something totally different.
I will make a Hover mega. It could be the fastest fully armed pit hunter mega ever built. But it will also be weak and utterly hopeless in TDM.

Alrighty, that works for me on both accounts. Good luck, and keep it up! Thanks for sharing. =)

Mega mech legs don't gain much from the lightness of this chassis.

This must have taken ages to put together....I didn't think anyone would have the patience to do it :P I think this build style would have much greater benefits on mega with wheels or hovers in which weight has an impact though. Sadly tri-forcing/tetra-forcing doesn't make that much of a difference these days in terms of survivability with the game being dumbed down to what it ...But it does look really, Really cool ^^ 10/10

if i get bored enough ill be sure to make a mega hover in this style hehe

Hovers are something I tried and will continue with, but transparency makes them really easy to see and target, crippling the bot quickly and easily. Wheels, maybe an option, but I prefer the tankiness of legs over wheels in a Mega.

Looks awesome but might not be the best for the pit but probably amazing for team death match

What? WHAT? ONESHOT?
Just...no man. There are many idiots on the CRF, so i wouldnt be surpirised if someone tried to triforce it but instead made the halfs of the bot connected by 1 cube or something

Oneshot? Only if someone modified and broke it. I've never been one shotted and I doubt it's possible. There are too many interconnected alternative links and they are too broadly spaced. I designed so that every part has multiple pathways and there is no central core. Even with both legs gone, the superstructure will mostly remain intact.
It's not super tanky, but it's not a pushover.

may have been, but it was almost identical, adjusted raiting. c:

Maybe it's less conspicuous in battle, but from the garage pics it looks like a smart sniper or bomber would know where to focus their attacks to hit the mega module. I don't know if the module is as important to protect as seats were, so it might not even matter.

As far as I'm aware it is no longer of any consequence. It has only 1HP and 1CPU and its loss causes no functional disadvantage.

I guess its only function is to unlock Mega CPU limits, then.

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting

Hey, seems like you're about to place your first constructive vote. That's awesome! I just wanted to inform you a bit about it before you jump into voting though. You can vote on any comment accompanied with a rating as a "Constructive Review". This will give the reviewer a "Constructive Point".
