"Swoop" Ion Plane/Mech

Ion Flier added 4 months ago

Inspired by SWWWWA's "try hard" bot, a plane with mech leg or a mech with wings. The advantages of this setup are not only that mech legs give the ion bot a smooth landing and stable movement on ground, but also provide a way of balancing that enable front mounted dual ION. Usually the problem of front IONs on a plane, is that they will move the center of mass to forward, when all wings are behind CoM the bot will have very slow pitch up/down rate in air. With two equal heavy mech legs in the other end of body the CoM will be balanced back to center of the body again, provides the bot much better control quality. In addition two rudders are install the at back to further enhance the pitch up/down rate, which is very important for an ion plane to get close to its target from air.

Another tip, press space while turning to make sharp turning.

This is by far the coolest bot you have ever made. It looks very effective, and I love the concept. I actually tried this once, but I failed miserably... My only problem is that when landed, the legs turn very slowly, but I assume that can't be helped.

Yes, it turns slow on ground. The only thing that can override wings effect on turning on ground is spider leg, which I have tested a lot but no success. Still the mech legs function better than hovers IMO, you need to take more advantage from wings, by flying more precisely to the spot, and leave the battle at right time.

Color Me impressed. I have seen other box with legs and people trying to get them to fly. But none have come close to what you have achieved with this robot. This inspirational robot is given me a reason to try to make one of my own. You have a fan in Excalibur 69 hope to see you in the skies guns a-blazing. My Skynet Thunder versus your swoop would be interesting to see who's the better pilot. More than likely it's you but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have fun trying to take you down.

Constructive Points

Constructive points are what you get when other users mark your reviews (comment+ratings) as constructive.

When should you mark a review as constructive though?

If you answer yes to at least three of these questions you should definitely mark it as constructive; is the review..

  1. friendly?
  2. helpful?
  3. encouraging?
  4. well structured?
  5. fair relative to the CPU used?

Why do I want these points?

After receiving X amount of points you will get a chance of being promoted to "trusted reviewer". This promotion is done by a moderator if (s)he thinks your comment and rating behaviour is reasonable.

Trusted reviewer?

As a trusted reviewer you no longer need to write a comment when rating a robot. If you add a comment you will receive extra points. Trusted reviewer is not necessarily permanent, continous bad behaviour or lack of comments might get you demoted.

Constructive Voting
